New to Reformer? A Guide Just for You

Your gentle introduction to Reformer Pilates at Sense Greater Peace, Woolacombe.

What Is Reformer Pilates and Who Is It For?

Reformer Pilates is a low-impact, strength-building movement practice using spring-based equipment to support and challenge your body. It’s suitable for beginners, returners, and regular movers alike—especially if you’re looking for a mindful, breath-led way to build stability, mobility, and awareness.

At Sense Greater Peace in Woolacombe, we offer small group Reformer Pilates classes (maximum 5 clients), so you receive personal guidance in a calm and welcoming environment.

What to Wear (and What to Avoid) for Your First Reformer Class

Please wear soft, fitted clothing that allows you to move freely—leggings, a vest, or a T-shirt are all ideal. To protect our equipment and your comfort:

  • Avoid zips, metal studs, or poppers (they can damage the machines)

  • Avoid body oils, sunscreen, or heavy creams before class (they can affect grip and stain the upholstery)

  • Remove all jewellery before your session

  • Grip socks are recommended for stability and hygiene—we have some available at the studio if needed

How the Reformer Works: A Quick Introduction

The Reformer may look unfamiliar at first, but it’s simply a spring-loaded platform that glides with your movement. The springs offer resistance that helps you build strength without putting strain on joints. You’ll be fully guided through how to use it—we don’t expect you to know anything in advance.

Our beginner Reformer Pilates sessions are carefully structured so you feel safe, supported, and in control.

Moving with Breath: The Flow of a Reformer Class

Each movement is coordinated with your breath. This breath-led approach calms the nervous system and helps you stay connected to your body throughout the class. You’ll be invited to move slowly, with precision—there’s no rush, no competition, and no pressure to perform.

If something doesn’t feel right, we’ll offer options or adjustments. Listening to your body is encouraged.

What to Expect in a Beginner Reformer Pilates Session

Your first Reformer class at Sense Greater Peace will be:

  • Small and personal – no more than 5 clients per class

  • Calm and focused – we move with intention, not intensity

  • Fully guided – everything is explained step by step

  • Supportive – questions are always welcome

You’ll be introduced to key movements, supported to find your pace, and offered gentle feedback to help you feel confident on the machine.
