3 Things to Know Before Your First Reformer Session

Trying something new can feel a little uncertain—but at Sense Greater Peace, you’ll be gently guided through everything you need to know. Here’s what to expect from your first Reformer Pilates session.

1. You Don’t Need to Be Flexible or Fit to Start

Reformer Pilates is designed to support your body, not challenge it in ways that feel unsafe. The equipment is adjustable, and every session is tailored to your level and needs. Whether you’re returning to movement or exploring it for the first time in a while, you’ll be welcomed just as you are.

What to wear:

  • Comfortable, fitted clothing (no zips or metal studs)

  • Grip socks if you have them (we have some available)

  • Avoid wearing jewellery, oils, creams, or sunscreen, as they can damage the upholstery on the machines.

2. The Reformer Looks Complicated – But It’s Not

It’s common to feel unsure when you first see the equipment. You’ll be shown how it works, and everything will be explained step by step. The Reformer uses spring resistance to help you move with more control and precision—building strength and improving mobility.

You won’t be expected to know anything in advance. Your teacher will support you throughout the session.

3. We Move With the Breath

You’ll be invited to move in rhythm with your breath. This helps keep your mind calm and your movements steady. There’s no pressure to get it right—just breathe, move, and stay curious. With regular practice, it starts to feel natural.

If anything feels confusing or too much, simply pause and ask. This is a supportive, small-group setting where you’re encouraged to listen to your body.

A Few Extra Things to Know

  • Please remove all jewellery before your session. It can get caught or damage the machines.

  • Avoid body oils, lotions, or sunscreen before class, as they affect your grip and can stain the equipment.

  • Avoid clothing with metal poppers or studs, as these can tear or mark the Reformer.

What to Expect

  • A calm, focused atmosphere

  • Personal guidance in a group of no more than 5

  • A chance to reconnect with your body in a steady, safe, and empowering way
