Overcoming Your Fears The Ultimate Guide to Reformer Pilates at SENSE GREATER PEACE

Support and Alignment Pilates Guidance

If you’ve been curious about Reformer Pilates, it’s completely natural to feel a little hesitant.

Questions like “Is Reformer Pilates too hard for me?” or

“Am I flexible enough for Reformer Pilates?” are very common - and ones I’m often asked.

I believe every body can benefit from the strength, alignment, and calm that Reformer Pilates offers — and you can feel safe in the knowledge that I guide each person every step of the way, no matter what stage they’re beginning at.

I want to demystify Reformer Pilates, so I hope you find this blog helpful and insightful. My intention is that it reassures you, answers your questions, and inspires you to come and visit me at the SENSE GREATER PEACE studio in Woolacombe, Devon.

What Is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates uses a specially designed machine with springs and pulleys to support your movements. Unlike mat Pilates, the Reformer provides resistance that can be adjusted to your level, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners. it offers proprioception, so you really get to understand your own body.

In my classes at SENSE GREATER PEACE, I focus on mindful movement, helping you build strength, stability, and confidence while caring for your body’s natural intelligence.

Common Fears and Questions About Reformer Pilates

“I’m not flexible enough.”

Flexibility is a bonus, not a requirement. Reformer Pilates gently stretches and strengthens muscles, gradually increasing your range of motion. I guide every movement mindfully, ensuring you feel safe and supported. Open communication between us is essential, so I always understand how your body feels in each movement.

“It looks intimidating.”

The equipment can look complex at first, but the studio atmosphere makes learning intuitive and enjoyable! Each session is tailored to your body’s needs, so you never feel pressured to keep up with anyone else.

I highly recommend joining the 6-week beginners course that I offer. It helps you build confidence and learn how to practise Reformer Pilates correctly from the start - with no bad habits. These classes are a joy to teach, and it’s wonderful to see each person grow in confidence week by week.

“I might get injured.”

When exercises are performed with care, you are focused, and guided by my extensive experience, the risk of injury is very low. I provide personalised attention, teaching proper alignment and safe execution of every movement. The focus on nervous system balance and body awareness makes your practice both restorative and effective - supporting you physically and emotionally.

“I’m not strong enough.”

Strength is built progressively. The Reformer supports your body while challenging muscles in a controlled way. Over time, you’ll notice improved posture, greater core strength, and a sense of ease in everyday movement.
